What were the IB Evaluation's findings about QMC?

Take a deeper dive and learn more about what the IBO found out about learning, teaching and life at QMC.

Education for life, not just examinations

One of the strongest findings of the IB Evaluation is that QMC delivers far more than academic achievement – it provides future-ready learning and education for life.

The review highlighted how academic excellence, student wellbeing and future-focused learning combine to create an education for life at QMC.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the process was seeing the response of the evaluation team themselves. Beyond the formal findings, their conversations with our IB Coordinators and other staff reflected just how impressed they were by the quality of education, the strength of relationships and the learning culture they experienced at QMC.

The independent reviewers repeatedly recognised QMC’s commitment to:

Character development

Community engagement

Service learning

International mindedness

Student agency and ownership

Leadership development

Research skills and capability

Critical thinking

Ethical decision-making

including the use of AI

Real-world connected learning

Developing lifelong learning

Exploring future pathways

through alumni, external partnerships and community engagement

Developing learners who are equipped for the future

The evaluation describes QMC students as active learners, collaborative thinkers, and engaged contributors to their communities. Our students are being prepared not only for university and further study but for leadership, citizenship and success in an increasingly complex world.

These findings align closely with feedback from QMC parents, students and staff, surfaced through the independent McCrindle Thriving Schools Index. Future readiness, critical thinking, research skills and emerging technologies such as AI were identified as high priorities across all three groups.

Student wellbeing and belonging

The IB Evaluation strongly recognised QMC’s commitment to wellbeing

“A safe, healthy and nurturing environment” – IB Evaluation, 2026

  • Mana-enhancing wellbeing education
  • Strong pastoral systems
  • Clinical support services
  • Learning support programmes

A connected and comprehensive educational journey – Year 1 to Year 13

The evaluation recognised QMC as a full IB Continuum School delivering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (IBDP) since 2009.

This creates a connected educational journey from Year 1 through to Year 13 built around:

  • Curiosity
  • Inquiry
  • Academic excellence
  • Global citizenship
  • Leadership
  • Service
  • Character development

Students at QMC experience a world-class coherent educational philosophy throughout their entire school journey, gradually developing the knowledge, skills and mindsets required for success beyond school.

International mindedness and global citizenship

The evaluation recognised the international character of QMC. The reviewers noted:

  • Approximately 23 nationalities are represented within the school
  • 12 languages spoken across the QMC community
  • A strong culture of international mindedness
  • Respect for diversity
  • Global perspectives embedded in learning and school life from Year 1 to Year 13

In a world that is increasingly connected, these experiences help students develop the cultural understanding and global awareness necessary to thrive in international environments.

Our students are the proof

One of the most powerful affirmations of QMC's success came from our students themselves.

The independent evaluation found students to be thoughtful, engaged, internationally minded and increasingly capable of directing their own learning. Their confidence, maturity and willingness to reflect on their experiences were evident throughout discussions about learning, wellbeing, leadership, service and future aspirations.

The IB Evaluation also recognised students as active contributors to QMC's growth, with meaningful involvement in programme development, planning and community engagement. The review found that at QMC, students are not just participants in their education, but partners in shaping it.
