Cross-Curricular Programme
The Cross-Curricular Programme has been developed to provide QMC Junior School students with the opportunity to pursue their personal interests while reinforcing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning – research skills, social skills, thinking skills, communication skills and self-management skills.
The programme’s offering is broad and allows students of all ages to extend their potential beyond the classroom.
Places are limited and are issued on a first-come basis. Please note that once booked, refunds are not available for any Cross-Curricular Activity. We encourage you to book cautiously.

Chess Wizards (Years 3-6)
Master the game of chess with fun, interactive sessions for all skill levels!
Students of all levels are welcome to learn and master chess. Sessions mix interactive learning and gameplay, following FIDE guidelines. The coach, a Certified FIDE Chess Instructor, ensures engaging sessions for everyone. Each student gets a ChessKid account to play with club mates or take on challenges. Students are encouraged to bring an A5 notebook to track and replay games at home, enhancing their skills further. Join to become a chess champion!

Creative Kids (Years 1-3)
Get into the festive spirit with our Christmas Crafts Club!
Unleash your creativity while learning fun, hands-on skills to make beautiful holiday-themed creations. From ornaments and cards to decorations and handmade gifts, each session offers a chance to explore your artistic side in a joyful, supportive environment. You'll build confidence, try new techniques, and enjoy the magic of making something special. Celebrate the season with friends, laughter, and lots of glitter—creating keepsakes and memories that will last well beyond the holidays!

Hapkido (Years 1-4)
Master self-defence with fun, interactive sessions for all skill levels!
Students learn safe falling techniques, situational awareness, and defence against common grabs. Sessions include foundational footwork, palm strikes, and kicking combinations using pads. Advanced drills and sparring basics are introduced as students progress. Forms (Hyung/Kata) teach fluid blocking and striking. Palm strikes replace punches to protect growing bones. Each session builds confidence, coordination, and respect. Students are encouraged to bring an A5 notebook to track progress and practice. Join to build strength and self-assurance!

Hip Hop Queens (Years 1-6)
Boogie and groove to high-energy hip hop beats!
If you’ve got energy to burn and love to move, you’re in the right place! Hip Hop combines fitness and fun in aerobic dance routines. Join an exciting series that blends rhythm, energy, and movement. This class challenges your coordination, boosts fitness, and keeps you engaged with high-energy choreography. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, get ready to move, and groove to the music with enthusiasm, joy, and a smile on your face throughout the entire class!

Cheer Champs (Years 3-6)
Cheer, dance, and sparkle with exciting routines and team tricks!
Get ready to cheer and sparkle with Cheer Champs Club! Our cheerleaders will master exciting routines, fundamental dance skills, and awesome team tricks. Grab your pompoms, bring your energy, and let’s cheer like never before! This activity challenges movement skills, increases fitness, and is loads of fun. Improve your coordination, build confidence, and make new friends in a supportive environment. Cooking (Years 5-6)
Get ready to cook, create, and connect!
Students will enhance their fine motor skills, boost their creativity, and develop patience and attention to detail. They will also experience the joy of sharing their dishes, fostering social skills and teamwork. The girls will learn to weigh and mix ingredients, bake, and cook, taste and explore combinations of herbs, spices and their uses in cooking appetizing dishes. They will be taken on a food adventure, pushing limits with different kitchen equipment, ingredients, techniques, and skill to create dishes.

Dribble, pass, and score with fun drills and team play!

The Service Stars Club is back, supporting a great cause, Cystic Fibrosis NZ, through the Wellington Airport Christmas Tree Festival. Students will collaborate on a creative and meaningful project that showcases our school’s spirit while raising awareness. Each session will focus on planning, crafting, and teamwork, helping students develop leadership and design skills. Celebrate Māori culture with our Kapa Haka group. Join us for dance, song, and tradition!
Dive into the vibrant world of Māori performing arts with our Kapa Haka group. Here, you'll learn traditional dances, sing beautiful waiata (songs), and embrace tikanga (cultural practices). It's the perfect way to express yourself through dance, celebrate Māori heritage, and immerse yourself in the rich Māori culture. Mini Mindfulness (Years 3-6)
Relax, focus, and find calm through yoga and mindfulness practices!
Mini Mindfulness aims to nurture a peaceful mind, healthy body, and creative spirit in primary school children. We start with sharing circles for self-expression and discussing feelings. Children learn breathing techniques for self-regulation and emotional intelligence. Through mindful activities, they develop cooperation, connection, patience, and compassion. We teach age-appropriate yoga poses in a safe, inclusive environment, ending with rest and relaxation to help their body and brain slow down, unwind, and rejuvenate fully and completely.

Tiny Twirlers (Years 1-3)
Explore movement and music in a playful, supportive environment!
At Tiny Twirlers, we celebrate the joy of dance for girls in Year 1-3. Our club is a vibrant space where young dancers can explore various dance styles, from ballet to hip-hop, and everything in between. We encourage creativity and self-expression by making up our own dances and learning from popular dance videos. Join us for a fun-filled journey of movement, music, and friendship. Let's twirl, leap, and groove together, creating wonderful memories along the way!

All Cross-Curricular Activities are charged per term to your QMC Account. The Trybooking system will list the event as ‘free’, this is because the fee will not be taken by the booking system, rather charged to your QMC account.
In order to cover the upfront costs associated with conducting the Cross-Curricular activities, refunds are not available if your child is not able to attend any of the days.
If you would like your child to attend After School Care following the completion of their club from 4:30pm - 5:30pm please book this via afterschoolcare@qmc.school.nz. This will an additional $13 per day.
