Bookable Workshops
Open Day offers a broad range of engaging workshops, designed to ignite curiosity and creativity in an interactive way! New or current students and parents or caregivers can participate in a multitude of activities in Science, Technology, Art, Sports, Drama and more. Workshops are where guests can hone their abilities or find a new interest under the guidance of experienced teachers and coaches.
With something for everyone, our workshops promise to inspire and empower learners of all ages.

Preschool Workshops

Playball | For Preschoolers
Location: Preschool
Coach James from Playball Wellington will be running sessions for Preschoolers aged 3-5. Feel free to visit our wonderful Preschool and chat to our friendly team at anytime.
All Years Workshops

Literary Zines | All years
Location: Library
Come along and make a fun zine then go and explore the wonders of the library with your scavenger hunt!
Escape the Tower | All ages
Location: The Tower
Join the team in the tower to try and escape in 20 minutes!
Birds in Print | For Years All Years
Location: W6
A taster session aimed at Year 6-9 to have a go at digital screen-printing. We will be printing a design on a product you can take away with you at the end of the session.
Junior School Workshops
Flowerpot Fun | For Years 1-6
Location: Kowhai Playground
Decorate your very own flowerpot and plant a seed to see it grow! Take these home and watch them flourish.
Creativity Awaits | For Years 1-6
Location: W19
Get wildly creative and have fun crafting your own original pencil holder. Take it home with you to use!
Kapa Haka | For Years 1-4
Location: W16
This hands-on session blends art, culture, and performance. Join us for a fun-filled workshop where tamariki will get creative making their very own tīpare (headband) and dive into the world of kapa haka! Through song, movement, and performance, students will learn basic kapa haka techniques and waiata, building confidence and connection to te ao Māori.
Code and Strike | For Years 4-6
Location: A2
Get ready to roll into the future! Code & Strike is where robotics meets bowling in an epic showdown of brains and bots. Students will design, build, and program robots to knock down as many pins as possible—with precision, strategy, and a little flair. It’s part coding challenge, part bowling battle, and 100% fun. Come cheer, compete, and experience the electrifying energy of STEM in motion!
Senior School Workshops

Screen Printing | For Years 6-10
Location: W6
A taster session aimed at Years 6-10 to have a go at digital screen-printing. We will be printing a design on a product you can take away with you at the end of the session.
48 Hour Film Festival | For Years 7-13
Location: C1
Four teams of QMC students are in the middle of the 48 Hour film Competition at this time. Visitors are welcome to come and observe in C1 media hub.

Sciences
Biology Dissection | For Years 9-13
Location: C12
Join us in our Biology workshop for a hands-on cow eyeball dissection. This workshop is recommended for people that do not get squirmish with dissections and feel confident using common laboratory dissection equipment. Come and explore with us!"

Fun with Physics | Years 9 - 13

Time: 10.30am - 1pm
Why does a spinning top not fall over? How does a speaker make sound? Come find out about the physics behind these and other interesting toy.

Mystery Chemistry | Years 9-13
Location: W12
Time: 10.30am - 1pm
Oh no! The cleaners have washed the labels of the bottles of chemicals again. Come and help us figure out what they are! Students will have 4 mystery substances and will use chemical tests to determine the identities of the unknown substances.

Technology
Technology | All ages
Location: W3
Time: 10.30am - 1pm
See examples of student work and live demonstrations of Robotics, Electronics, EPro8 Engineering work, 3D printing and laser-cutting. You will also be able to make and take away a personalised QMC Keyring or 3D printed ‘twizzler’.
