A starry surprise for the Junior School

Today we had a visit from Te Papa's Stardome!

The 3.4m-high inflatable planetarium was set up in the QMC Hall and proved a hit with Junior School students as they learned about both western and Māori astronomy and the stories told in the night sky.

We also discussed the traditions of Matariki and learned how to locate the star cluster. Naturally it was quite dark inside, and a challenge for photos, but there was endless oohing and ahhing as the starry projections raced around overhead.

A very cool experience and a big thanks to Te Papa.
