Happy Lunar New Year!

As we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, we step into a year that symbolises passion, independence, and energy. The Fire Horse is dynamic and driven, encouraging us to chase our goals with confidence and lead with courage. This is a special year as the Fire Horse is a rare cycle occurring every 60 years.

At Queen Margaret College, the Year of the Fire Horse is our reminder to bring even more enthusiasm into the classroom, take brave steps toward new challenges, and back ourselves and each other.

Thriving in the Year of the Fire Horse means setting ambitious goals, staying motivated, and embracing opportunities for growth, whether that’s in our learning, leadership, creativity, or friendships.

But with fiery energy also comes a reminder to stay balanced. The Fire Horse can be impulsive and fast-moving, so this year, guided by our QMC Hauora (Wellbeing) Model we’ll focus on thinking before we act, listening to others, and making thoughtful choices. Passion is powerful, and when guided with patience and respect, it helps our whole community succeed.

Advice from Principal Jayne-Ann Young as we begin the year of the Fire Horse:

  • Lean into passion projects
  • Ground yourself regularly to avoid burnout in this fast-moving year
  • Be mindful of timing and slow down before making big decisions. However, once you decide: act decisively
  • Practice breaking free from any limiting beliefs that hold you back

Let’s make this a year of confidence, resilience, and positive momentum. A year where we uplift one another, strive for excellence, and move forward with purpose.

Wishing all of our students, staff, and whānau a joyful, prosperous, and successful Lunar New Year!
