Queen Margaret Residence (QMR), a traditional character home, is an unparalleled boarding experience for students in Years 12 and 13.

Queen Margaret Residence (QMR) offers a unique boarding experience for our Years 12 and 13 students – blending independence, academic support, community and real-world life skills within a warm, character home right on campus. It provides a nurturing environment to support students’ academic success and personal growth – preparing senior students for a smooth transition to independent living at university, and beyond.

QMR bridges the gap between traditional boarding and independent living for our senior students. Living at QMR gives them new opportunities for personal development and empowers them to build life skills such as time management, self-organisation, collaboration, and independence. It’s a supportive environment that encourages maturity, confidence and self development.

QMR supports students’ academic success and personal growth. With close integration with Queen Margaret House (QMH) and supervised programmes, students practise essential life skills and authentic leadership in a safe and nurturing community.

QMR is on the College campus, located in Wellington’s safe and leafy ‘Embassy Quarter’, offering a secure and premium environment. It is 30-minutes from Wellington domestic and international airport.

QMR has:

  • 9 two-person shared rooms
  • A beautiful open plan kitchen and dining room with self-catering options and access to QMH healthy global menu
  • A large open plan lounge
  • A study zone
  • Several bathrooms
  • Organised events, activities, and life skills programmes (e.g. cooking, budgeting, and self-defence)
  • Right on campus with a 1-minute walk to classrooms
  • 2-minute walk to Queen Margaret House, our purpose-built luxury boarding house for students in Years 7 to 13
  • Access to campus facilities including a gym, fitness centre, tennis court, dance studio, music practice rooms, and outdoor recreational spaces
