Waitlisting at QMC

At Queen Margaret College, we are committed to maintaining a transparent and equitable admissions process. Our waitlist system ensures that applicants are considered fairly when space becomes available, while also honouring longstanding family connections to our school community.

What does it mean to be waitlisted?

Your daughter is eligible for entry, but due to limited availability, we are unable to offer a place immediately. Waitlisting is a queue-based system, and students are offered places as they become available.

How we manage our waitlists

Our waitlists are managed chronologically, based on the date an application is received. We do not rank or select students on the waitlist – it is a fair and transparent process.

The following factors are considered when managing waitlists:

  • Date of application: Priority is given to applications received earlier.
  • Family connections: Applicants with a direct family relationship to QMC are prioritised. This includes:
    • Daughters of Old Girls (alumni)
    • Siblings of current students
    • Extended family connections, e.g. grandparent is an alumna
    • Children of current staff members
  • Boarders, international students, and children of diplomats: In some cases we may prioritise students seeking boarding placements or those relocating from overseas or from other regions.
  • Scholarships: Students awarded QMC scholarships.

Why family connections matter

Queen Margaret College values continuity and community. Family connections help us maintain strong ties across generations and support the legacy of our school.

If your family has a prior relationship with QMC, it is important to include this information in your application so it can be appropriately considered.

We will keep you updated

We will keep waitlisted families updated. Waitlist movement depends on availability, and our team will notify families promptly when a space becomes available.

We appreciate your interest in Queen Margaret College and thank you for your patience and understanding throughout the admissions process.
