Stewarding Tomorrow’s Creators: Peter Mahoney and the Vision Behind QMC’s Creative Industries Centre

In a world increasingly shaped by imagination, innovation and interdisciplinary thinking, Queen Margaret College is preparing its students not just to participate – but to lead. At the heart of this bold vision is the Creative Industries Centre: a purpose-built hub for art, design, media, technology, dance, drama and music. It’s a space where creativity meets opportunity, and where the next generation of filmmakers, designers, performers, and entrepreneurs will find the tools, inspiration and mentorship to thrive.

But this isn’t just a building. It’s a legacy.

And behind that legacy stands the QMC Foundation Trust – an enduring force for progress, equity and excellence. Since its formation in 2005, the Trust has quietly shaped the physical and philosophical landscape of the College, raising funds for scholarships, capital projects, and strategic initiatives that benefit every student. Now, under the stewardship of Chair Peter Mahoney, the Trust is stepping into the spotlight with a $4 million fundraising campaign to bring the Creative Industries Centre to life.

Peter Mahoney is not your typical fundraiser. He’s a digital strategist, a civic-minded volunteer, and a father of two. He’s ocean-swimmer resilient and theatre-lover passionate. With roots in both New Zealand and the UK, and a career spanning global communications and local entrepreneurship, Peter brings a rare blend of strategic clarity and emotional intelligence to his role as Chair of the Foundation Trust.

“Schools should be thoughtful, engaging and community-infused spaces,” Peter says. “At the Foundation Trust, our mission is to support and enhance the educational experience at QMC through fundraising, endowments, and strategic partnerships. This is a critical and exciting time for us as we embark on our ambitious Campus Master Plan. With your support, we can create a future-fit campus that provides the best possible environment for our students and secures the legacy of girls' education at QMC.”

Peter’s belief in the power of education is deeply personal. Having served as Associate Director for Communications at The American School in London, and now leading two digital marketing firms across hemispheres, he understands the importance of equipping young people with both the technical skills and the creative confidence to navigate a rapidly evolving world. His leadership of the Trust is marked by transparency, warmth, and a long-term view – qualities that make him not only a compelling advocate, but a trusted partner for those considering significant philanthropic support.

The Creative Industries Centre is more than a milestone – it’s a catalyst. Located on the site of the Old Gym, this pioneering space will feature an auditorium, studios, cutting-edge media labs, gallery areas, and more. It will nurture creativity, wellbeing and innovation, while unlocking the next phase of campus transformation: reimagining STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) spaces and interdisciplinary learning environments.

“This is where the future begins,” Peter says. “The next great creative mind could be walking our halls right now. With your help, we can give them the space to dream, the tools to build, and the courage to lead.”
