Cross-Curricular Programme
The Cross-Curricular Programme has been developed to provide QMC Junior School students with the opportunity to pursue their personal interests while reinforcing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning – research skills, social skills, thinking skills, communication skills and self-management skills.
The programme’s offering is broad and allows students of all ages to extend their potential beyond the classroom.
Places are limited and are issued on a first-come basis

Spanish Lessons (Years 1 - 4)
Ligera – Cámara – Acción
Spanish lessons aim to provide insight into the Spanish language, regardless of previous experience, knowledge or age.

Physical Stories (Years 1 - 3)
Every week, Joanne presents a new story in an energetic, interactive programme.
Joanne uses a range of drama and performance skills, movement and dance, kids' yoga, songs, music, props and reflection time, to build on children’s concentration, confidence and collaboration skills.

QMC Mini Chefs (Years 4 - 6)
Students are immersed in the joy of cooking when they take part in QMC Mini Chefs.
Chef Steph works her culinary magic to deliver a fun and interactive environment for the mini chefs.
WHEN: Monday 3.30-4.30pm

Chess Club (Years 3 - 6)
Students of all levels are welcome to have fun, learn, and master this wonderful game
The Chess Club sessions are a mix of interactive learning and game-play, following the official FIDE Educational Chess guidelines. The coach is a Certified FIDE Chess Instructor, and each session is designed to be engaging for all students, regardless of their level.
Every student receives a ChessKid online account where they can continue to play with their club mates, or they can choose to engage in a variety of challenges. Students are encouraged to bring an A5 notebook to class to keep track of their games and replay them at home if they wish.

Jump Jam
JUMP JAM brings together fitness and fun in a series of aerobic dance routines
Enjoy a fusion of dance and aerobics as we explore the JUMP JAM routines created by 2x World Aerobic Campion Brett Fairwell. Designed to challenge movement skills and increase fitness!

Service & Leadership Club (Years 5 & 6)
Service and Leadership Club
The Service and Leadership Club, underpinned by our core value of generosity, exposes students to service and leadership first hand, preparing them for success in roles like Ambassador when they enter Year 7.
This term, students will engage in service and leadership as they prepare for the annual Cystic Fibrosis Wellington Christmas Tree Festival helping to raise vital funds to support kiwis living with cystic fibrosis.
Students will be involved creating QMC decorations to light up a QMC Christmas Tree at Wellington Airport.
Get your creativity going and sparkle this Christmas!
All fees from this club will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis NZ.

Dance Club (Years 1 - 3)
Dance with Miss Bree in Dance Club, skills are not required, however, passion is essential!
Explore a range of dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip hop and contemporary. Grasp basic positions and learn choreography together. Each Wednesday, bring your best dancing feet and groovy moves to express yourself through movement and dance!

Art Expression (Years 3 - 6 )
The hugely popular Art Expression is one of the most in-demand cross-curricular activities on offer.
Art Expression expands on a student’s techniques and produces artwork that would make Warhol go ‘wow’ and Monet call for 'more'.

Innovative Problem Solving (Years 4 - 6)
Feel like you need some harder work? Need to work on your social and communication skills?
Learn problem solving skills in the Puzzle Club while developing your creative, communication, and social skills. Students will also have the opportunity to get to know other students in different classes and year levels. No prior knowledge is required, so come on, sign up!

Chinese Culture Club (Years 1 - 6)
Calling students born in the Year of the Dog to those born in the Year of the Snake.
Explore the Chinese New Year, learn to write Chinese characters delve into Chinese folklore, create a variety of traditional Chinese arts and crafts and MORE!

STEM Club (Years 5 - 6)
This club inspires students to GENERATE CURIOSITY and EVOKE CREATIVITY – resulting in the creation of the 'secret sauce' that is STEM.

Ms Horne extends students' skills in innovative problem-solving. This is fun and interactive club that students will enjoy while building on their problem-solving skills.
Students gain confidence, independence, resilience and adaptability when embarking on these challenges.

The hugely popular Art Club
Each Thursday, students in Years 1 and 2 will get their art smock on and let their creative juices flow. Art Club is renowned for producing artwork worthy of wall space in your home.

Coding with Lego (Years 3 - 6)
Coding with Lego - Cross-Curricular Activity
Coding with Lego allows students to develop coding skills.
Join Mr Markwell in this fun activity, work in a team, expand problem-solving skills and boost creativity.

Mini Mindfulness (Years 3 - 6)
Join Ms Purcell for an hour of health and relaxation as you practise the skill of mindfulness through yoga.
Explore breath control, simple meditation, and become more aware of your thoughts and feelings. Bring your own Yoga mat.

Each cross-curricular activity costs between $15 and $25 per session.
All Cross-Curricular Activities are charged per term to your QMC Account. The Trybooking system will list the event as ‘free’, this is because the fee will not be taken by the booking system, rather charged to your QMC account.
In order to cover the upfront costs associated with conducting the Cross-Curricular activities, refunds are not available if your child is not able to attend any of the days.
If you would like your child to attend After School Care following the completion of their club from 4:30pm - 5:30pm please book this via afterschoolcare@qmc.school.nz This will an additional $10 per day.
