Welcome to Queen Margaret College

This website is a window into the vibrant life of Queen Margaret College, a leading independent girls' school in Wellington, New Zealand.

Established on our present site in Hobson Street in 1919 as a girls' school, the College's general aim, as stated in the first prospectus was 'to provide for girls a sound intellectual and moral education, and to build up strong Christian character on a broad religious basis, and thus to develop the best type of girlhood and womanhood'- in short, quality education for girls.

Ninety years later, our Founders' original vision endures - to deliver, in a 21st century context, a rich holistic education for girls underpinned by Christian values - an educational recipe that we, as a leading girls' school, still vigorously maintain.

We celebrate the cultural diversity of our students, a feature of the school from early in its history, located as it is in the middle of a cosmopolitan capital city, close to embassies, high commissions and parliament.

The lively day-to-day life of the school is punctuated by performances and speeches, sports exchanges and overseas trips, community fairs and school socials in addition to the obvious excellence of academic endeavour.

Our girls achieve outstanding results academically and in an extensive range of sporting and cultural activities.
