Emergency Procedure

We rely on parents keeping their contact details updated in case of emergencies. If your work place, home address, contact number or email changes during the course of the year, please email the Data Office.

Name Emergency Contact

Before your daughter starts school we require you to nominate someone who:

  • lives in the inner city basin
  • who lives/works within walking distance of Queen Margaret College
  • not someone who would be involved in emergency care area should a Civil Emergency be declared e.g a Doctor

If this person changes during the course of the year email the Data Office.

Possible Emergencies

1. Earthquake:

  • If safe, students will remain in their classrooms
  • If unsafe, the school will move to Hobson Gymnasium
  • Parents will be updated to school status by:
    • Website
    • QMC App
    • Email
    • SMS Text Message
  • Should evacuation be required
    • Parents/Named Emergency Contact report to Parent Collection Point (determined on the day).
    • No student (including those over 18 years of age) will be permitted to leave school unless signed out by a parent or named emergency contact.

2. Fire:

  • Students will go immediately to Katherine Mansfield Park
  • When safe, students will return to class or be evacuated.
  • Parents will be updated to school status by:
    • Website
    • QMC App
    • Email
    • SMS Text Message
  • If evacuation required, students will be released:
    • By parent/named emergency contact collection
    • Home via normal transport at end of school day.

3. Tsunami:

  • Students will go to upper Craven and Hobson buildings
  • Parents will be updated to school status by:
    • Website
    • QMC App
    • Email
    • SMS Text Message
  • When cleared by Civil Defence Warden, evacuation process is same as earthquake.

4. Lockdown:

  • Parents will be updated to school status by:
    • Website
    • QMC App
    • Email
    • SMS Text Message
  • When cleared by NZ Police and if evacuation process required, this is the same process as earthquake.
