Mentors

International students are required to have a mentor. The mentor meets regularly with the student to ensure that she is content and that all is well concerning educational, homestay, financial and social matters. There are two options for a mentor:

Either the student's parent(s) may appoint a mentor who:

  • permanently resides in Wellington
  • can communicate fluently in English.

Or Queen Margaret College appoints a mentor who:

  • Meets regularly with the student
  • Sends a monthly report to the student's parents
  • Makes decisions on behalf of the parents or following consultation with the parent(s) (depending on the circumstances) regarding issues such as:

the safety and welfare of the student
the medical needs of the student
permission for the student to travel beyond the Wellington area
any emergency that may occur.
