Learning

Education is not just about academic study. It is discovering who you are and learning to capitalise on your strengths. Queen Margaret taught me that.

Since the College was established in 1919, it has followed the legacy of its Presbyterian Founders by having a resolute belief in the highest education for girls and young women. Today, the College continues to deliver, in a 21st century context, a rich holistic education.

As an independent school we are committed to achieving excellence and providing optimal opportunities. With a roll of approximately 680 pupils, the College is small enough to ensure every girl is appreciated as an individual but large enough to offer a full range of subjects, along with a myriad of sporting and cultural activities.

A Queen Margaret College education is a seamless learning progression for girls from Pre-School through to Year 13. This contributes to the family atmosphere with girls of all ages joining together in House events, assemblies, church services and extra-curricular activities. Within this over-arching composite structure are four ‘schools'- Pre-School, Junior, Middle and Senior catering for the learning needs of girls at a specific stage in their development.

Some special features for developing our students are:

  • the International Baccalaureate Programme
  • learning support and extension programmes
  • a wide range of cultural opportunities through class programmes and co-curricular activities
  • a diversity of individual and team sports
  • leadership opportunities
  • community service which is an integral part of learning
  • celebration of success
  • a supportive pastoral network.

An inclusive, holistic approach to support student achievement is clearly evident.
