Learning Enhancement

Through a differentiated curriculum, teachers cater for individual learning needs, providing extension programmes for able students.

In the Junior School, students are taught French , Art and Music by specialist teachers.

From Year 7, all subjects are taught by specialist teachers. Starting at Year 9, students are placed in a mathematics classes according to ability. This extension is continued in Year 10 with one mathematics class sitting a full Year 11 NCEA programme. Embedded in Year 10 English, Science and Humanities programmes are NCEA Achievement Standards and these are sat by all students.

In the Junior School, a teacher has specific responsibility for identifying and delivering a GATE programme. In the Middle School, break out programmes such as Shakespeare Day enrich learning. Middle School students are also prepared for external competitions and activities such as the Year 9 Spelling Bee, the Year 7 and 8 Literature Quiz or the BP Technology Challenge.

Year 13 students are encouraged to sit the Level 4 scholarship examinations and special classes are run by their subject teachers to facilitate this. Holiday tutorials are also provided prior to examinations.

In addition, classroom programmes and learning enhancement opportunities are augmented for all girls by participation in a wide range of co-curricular activities.
