Job Description

JOB TITLE: Teacher

The primary objective is to deliver, in a twenty first century context, a rich holistic education where each girl can realise her maximum potential and become a woman who makes a difference in the modern world. The College aims to develop passionate learners, resilient women and future leaders in society.

All staff are part of the Queen Margaret College Community working, in the spirit of the Founders statement: ‘to provide for girls a sound intellectual and moral education, to build up strong Christian character on a broad religious basis, and thus develop the best type of girlhood and womanhood.'

All staff will at all times, faithfully and honestly, discharge their duties and will observe and comply with all reasonable instructions and requirements in relation to their duties and their activities in or connected with the College, as may be given by the Principal of the College.

All staff are expected to keep confidential, at all times, information about the business of the College, the personal details of students and other staff members and any other information concerning the College, the disclosure of which might reasonably be expected to be detrimental to the College or current students.

FUNCTION:

(a) To facilitate high quality teaching and learning within the College.
(b) To carry out the role of subject teacher and form teacher as prescribed:

DIRECT REPORT:

• Reporting 2011 Line Management

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

(a) Leadership

(i) Role modelling behaviour that encourages students to act and use knowledge in a socially responsible and ethical way.
(ii) Developing positive, respectful relationships in the school community, supporting a sense of achievement and self-development in students.
(iii) Fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where cultural diversity and achievement are recognised and celebrated.

(b) Teaching and Learning

(i) Setting goals, Learning Intentions and clear criteria for success with students.
(ii) Providing learning activities that are engaging, with resources that are challenging, differentiating so that students are working at the appropriate level.
(iii) Using a range of teaching strategies effectively, aiming for higher order thinking and deeper knowledge.
(iv) Integrating e-learning into the curriculum to improve student outcomes.
(v) Using the Assess for Learning model, providing constructive feedback that gives students clear next steps for learning.
(vi) Writing reports and consulting with parents/guardians as required.
(vii) Following and completing curricula as advised by middle manager.

(c) Professional

(i) Keeping up-to-date with professional knowledge, particularly in subject area.
(ii) Developing competence in using all appropriate digital technologies.
(iii) Undertaking annual formative appraisal with particular reference to goal setting and reviewing performance and to identifying the professional development needed to achieve goals.
(iv) Taking part in department and staff meetings and carrying out assigned responsibilities.
(v) Carrying out staff duties e.g. playground supervision, attending house meetings.
(vi) Checking and monitoring attendance of students.
(vii) Completing any other internal returns as required by the College.

(d) Co-curricular Responsibilities

Teachers are expected to play an active role in the co-curricular activities of the College. Co-curricular activities encompass wider education-related activities of importance to the College including but not limited to academic and related school events such as open days.

(e) Extracurricular Responsibilities

Teachers are expected to play an active role in the extra-curricular activities of the College. Extra-curricular activities include but are not limited to cultural and sporting activities approved by the Principal as desirable in the wider interests of students and the College.
