A few kind words
“QMC provides the opportunity to study the IB Diploma and has a great system to make sure all international students are on the right track like workshops and challenges. The College gives me a good environment to study every day and has small form class so that form teachers could help me about problems more constantly. QMC has a lot of international activities with other schools and we all have fun by doing those things.” – Maggie Xu, Current Year 13 Chinese International Student.
“My mother came to New Zealand with me, so that I didn’t have to stay with a home stay family. She can only speak little bit English, so living in a different country and using a different language is very difficult for her. But luckily, people in New Zealand were very friendly, and they often helped us when we needed it. The teachers in QMC also helped my mum, and she feels so happy to be here. She said: “Choosing to come to this amazing school is the best decision that we made.” – Yik Tong, Current Year 10 International Student.
“People know that QMC has the IB Diploma. We have a chance to learn an international qualification but from the years I have studied at QMC, I have learnt a lot more than knowledge. Studying at QMC is not just about getting a high mark and winning. It is also a chance to unleash your potential and inspire yourself.” – Amber Jiang, Current Year 13 Chinese International Student.
“QMC is located in a very safe district surrounded by many embassy buildings. Many children of diplomats and from overseas go to QMC hence one of the valuable things in this school is to have opportunities to learn about multiple cultures and the ways of thinking mutually. We visited Wellington to see our daughter and had a chance to look around QMC. We came to understand it was a great environment and had a variety of facilities. That made us very relief considering our daughter’s daily life here. ” – Kotaro Endo, Japanese Parent.
“The first time I came to the school, I received a really warm welcome from teachers and students. For senior school, you can choose to do NCEA or IB as your study programme and they all have good teachers and systems to support you. The school not only cares about your study, but also encourage you to do some sports for fitness. Most of the international students choose to do Speech and Drama lesson for the improvement of their English and skills of speech. I chose voice lesson as I like singing.” – Stephanie Shi, Current Year 13 Chinese International Student.
“In China, we put more emphasis on text-books based teaching whereas in New Zealand the focus is on combining education and life experience. In a Chinese physics class, there are more than 50 students in the class who would watch the teacher doing experiments. In New Zealand, there are only 10-15 people in a senior class making it easier to guide and explain. In a physics lesson we were taken to the park with all the materials and tools for experiments to experience science in a real life context.” – Stephanie Zheng, Former QMC International Student.
“We feel honoured to let people know that QMC has a wonderful college spirit, a multicultural environment and a warm, caring atmosphere for international students.” – Stephanie and Bonnie Zheng, Former QMC International Students.
