Why does the school need a development plan?
To provide the resources and facilities necessary for excellent teaching and learning in a dynamic and changing world (Momentum)
Why does the school need a new gymnasium?
Following consultation with teachers, parents and students a new, full-size, state-of-the-art gymnasium was identified as the facility that students would benefit from most and parents would expect when choosing QMC as their preferred education provider. The existing gymnasium could then be used for dance and other performing arts which are increasingly popular subject choices.
Why do we need new state-of-the-art classrooms for the Language Department?
The school is implementing the International Baccalaureate Diploma in 2010. Languages are an important part of the school curriculum. Flexible language classrooms and oral laboratories are essential for good language teaching. The Languages Department is currently housed in cramped conditions in the old AV room with no room for expansion.
Will there be a loss of outdoor space for students with the proposed new gymnasium/classroom block?
Students will gain an indoor netball court and an all weather court in place of the two outdoor netball courts. This should lead to improved accessibility for students. Also, the school will upgrade all its outdoor areas to improve access, utility and aesthetics.
Why do we need a new junior classroom?
The additional classroom will provide extra space while the new gymnasium and language rooms are being built. The Junior School is growing and a new classroom will be necessary as the roll grows.
How long will it take for the buildings to be completed?
From start to finish, approximately five years. We would expect the new gymnasium and classroom block to be up and running by the beginning of 2015.
How much will it cost?
The proposed developments are expected to cost up to $7,000,000.
How is it being funded?
