At Queen Margaret College, we cater for the individual. Learning extension is offered in many ways.
All teachers deliver rigorous programmes and the girls’ learning augmented by their participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Through a differentiated curriculum, teachers cater for individual learning needs, providing extension programmes for able students. Mathematics is tailored to ability levels.
In the Junior School, students are taught French , Art and Music by specialist teachers.
From Year 7, all subjects are taught by specialist teachers. In Years 7 and 8, students are grouped according to literacy levels and the programme is aligned with the literacy programme. Along with the three English teachers, literacy support and GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) are offered simultaneously.
Our GATE co-coordinator runs a curriculum-based extension programme for selected Year 5- 10 students. The GATE programme may develop themes already being explored in class or prepare students for external competitions and activities such as the Year 9 Spelling Bee, the Year 7 and 8 Literature Quiz or the BP Technology Challenge.
At Year 10, all students sit some Level 1 NCEA credits as part of their IB Middle Years Programme.
Year 13 students are encouraged to sit the Level 4 scholarship examinations and special classes are run by their subject teachers to facilitate this. Holiday tutorials are also provided prior to examinations.
