Curriculum

We use an inquiry-based approach which allows us to draw from the children's enquiring minds ensuring that learning is relevant and meaningful. We aim for our students to be reflective thinkers, communicators, risk takers and caring, principled, well-balanced people.
Kathleen McDonnell, Head of the Junior School

We are currently implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) in our Junior School. This international curriculum fits well with our inquiry based programme while giving us access to proven international educational methods.

Our College has always upheld traditional values which are an integral part of the PYP programme. Our caring environment means girls are always made to feel welcome and girls from many different backgrounds and faiths mix happily together.

Our programmes of learning will continue to be based on the New Zealand curriculum. However, PYP works well with our philosophy of being part of a global community. Teaching French from Year 3 is an example of our reaching out into the world.

We offer:

  • Specialist teaching in music, visual arts and languages
  • Each classroom is equipped with computer technology
  • We take full advantage of our proximity to the city
  • A wide range of academic, cultural and sporting events and competitions is offered
  • Strong Performing Arts programme
  • The opportunity to take private music and speech and drama lessons
  • teaching in music, visual art and languages.

Students...are given clear criteria, linked to the International Baccalaureate programme, against which progress and achievement are assessed. This promotes self monitoring and independence.
