Strong Relationships

My daughter, Sarah, started at Queen Margaret’s over two years ago and has just entered Year 9. Sarah has built up a strong relationship with a large number of her year group and is enjoying the interaction with all of them and her teachers. She also enjoys the competitive sporting options on offer, and is looking forward to one day playing for the QMC first eleven soccer team. We, as parents, are very pleased with the positive academic and social growth we have seen in our daughter. I am sure that Sarah’s remaining years will be as successful and positive as the ones she has already experienced.

A Warm Sanctuary of Learning

I have always been proud to be a Queen Margaret College Old Girl and to know that this school provided my older sister and myself with such a solid foundation for the lives we now enjoy. It was a special day when my own daughter started here, following in our footsteps .

Queen Margaret College has embraced my daughter into its fold and she has been encouraged to be the best she can be in all fields – whether academic, drama or sports. The teachers create a nurturing and vibrant learning environment which encompasses a wide selection of subjects. Always looking to the future, I believe the International Baccalaureate programme, taught right through the entire school, will enable her to choose any path, with the ability to study and work overseas.

I love walking in the doors of Queen Margaret’s as it is a warm sanctuary of learning and still holds such fond memories for me.

"I left Queen Margaret College in 2004, and studied at both Victoria University in Commerce and Arts, and also as a ‘Victoria Overseas Exchange’ student for a year at Jonkoping University in Sweden. University overseas exchanges are a great way to have the opportunity to study and live overseas while still completing your degree. This is especially a great option for QMC girls who have decided to study from their home town in Wellington as a way to really experience not only doing university in another town around NZ – but another country completely (at your same NZ University fees).

This experience changed my perspective and shaped my future career working with NZ exporting companies for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, helping them build connections, business opportunities and market potential around the world and specifically in my favourite region, Asia.

Most recently I have been based in Shanghai, China working as a Marketing Consultant where New Zealand operates a business centre ‘New Zealand Central’ in Shanghai, a showcase for New Zealand in downtown Shanghai. This is available for New Zealand companies to build the New Zealand brand and support their marketing and business activities for the China market.

The QMC experience exposes you to a range of activities, interests and opportunities and also international students. I understand now, Chinese is taught as a subject at QMC. All in all, a great opportunity to build lifelong connections. A highlight of my time at QMC was the environment of ‘possibility’ where you are encouraged to explore and achieve your best which you realise sets you up for life. This is an especially unique QMC characteristic.

A Perfect Brother and Sister School Choice For Our Children...

For our daughter and son Queen Margaret College and Scots College was a natural choice. We sought for Ilena (Year 7) and James (Year 5) a strong sense of continuity between their two schools and that has been provided within an outstanding educational and extra-curricular framework.

There exists an integral link between Scots and QMC which has exceeded our expectations providing an inherent continuity second to none.

Educationally there is a strong connection. A dual educational pathway delivering International Baccalaureate (IB) from the Primary and Middle Years Programme (PYP/MYP) through to the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) and NCEA.

The relationship between the two schools promotes a unified and cohesive balance for boys and girls to blossom to their full ability within a diversified and fun framework.

As a parent life is made easy. The schools check each others calendars so no clashes exist with events such as 'Fathers to school' mornings scheduled on seperate days making life much easier for us and fairer for our children!

Efforts between the two schools culminate in fabulous joint musical productions (Annie, Fame and 90 Years of Broadway), school dances, holiday and creative arts programmes, joint founders weekends to a year long sporting competition (QUOTS) where both host each other in a myriad of sporting challenges and activities. There is much to be celebrated and enjoyed between the two schools.
