Term One Nearly Over
The College Swimming Sports is a highlight in the calendar. At this whole school event the girls race competitively, dress in quirky costumes and House colours and, led by the House refects, enthusiastically perform their House chant as a 150 strong group of Year 1- 13 girls. It is an impressive display. This year, the Head of Drama, Ms O'Connell, and I had the difficult task of judging the Chant Competition with Locky just edging out Glamis for first place. The event ended with three teacher relay teams competing against Year 13. Although the staff did not win (on this occasion), I congratulate them on their ‘get up and go’ and also having such a lot of energy at this late stage in a busy first term.
On Thursday I met with the seven girls and their teacher, Mrs Dinsdale, who are travelling to Chile over the holidays. They will spend their time at our sister school, St Margaret's, in Con Con, just outside Santiago. Like QMC, this is an IB World School for girls from Pre-School to Year 13. While they are away they will be writing a blog so that they can share their experiences with their families and friends. Buen viaje!
There are a few staffing changes coming up next term. Sarah Bekker is moving to Australia with her husband. Taking her place in the Commerce Department is Lorena Medina who will spend next week at the school, thereby ensuring a smooth transition. In the Pre-school, we farewelled Julia Moughan, off on her OE and welcomed Kirsti Bourke. After spending Term 1 on study leave, Deputy Principal Barbara Mavor will not be returning to the College, and with Jo Burns returning from parental leave, we will also be farewelling Louise Tie as one of our Year
Coming up is the last week of Term One and then two weeks of holidays during which time the staff will be working hard to get the Hobson Complex ready for the opening on Friday 10 May and also for Top House day on the following day between 2-4pm when the girls (and family and friends) will have another opportunity to dress up in House colours.
