Educationally, last year was a watershed. Our second IB Diploma students graduated with half of the cohort sitting IBD; the other, NCEA.
A consequence of the dual pathway is that fewer girls can sit scholarship as many IBD subjects are not aligned with the course content of that examination. Pleasingly, seventeen scholarships across five subjects (Chemistry, English, Media Studies, Statistics and Technology) were gained in 2012 by students from both pathways.
Because of our dual pathway at Year 12 and 13, it is difficult to compare our NCEA results easily with those of other schools; comparisons of Excellent and Merit grades are particularly difficult as they take no account of the difference between subjects, internal or external standards or whether students are sitting assessments earlier. The latter is an approach now taken by QMC to lift the academic bar.

Learning is a complex business and should not be measured narrowly. Our girls are extended not only through classroom learning but also by participation in sport, community service and performing arts. Download Celebration 2012 which reports QMC student achievement for last year. |
