Achievements

Educationally, last year was a watershed. Our second IB Diploma students graduated with half of the cohort sitting IBD; the other, NCEA.

IB Diploma
  • Their mean grade was 33.5 out of a possible 45 and two girls scored 40+.
  • 20 grades of 7 (the maximum) were earned across a range of subjects. A 7 is the equivalent of a scholarship pass.
Scholarship

A consequence of the dual pathway is that fewer girls can sit scholarship as many IBD subjects are not aligned with the course content of that examination. Pleasingly, seventeen scholarships across five subjects (Chemistry, English, Media Studies, Statistics and Technology) were gained in 2012 by students from both pathways.

NCEA

Because of our dual pathway at Year 12 and 13, it is difficult to compare our NCEA results easily with those of other schools; comparisons of Excellent and Merit grades are particularly difficult as they take no account of the difference between subjects, internal or external standards or whether students are sitting assessments earlier. The latter is an approach now taken by QMC to lift the academic bar.

  • All Year 10 girls sit some Year 11 standards in their Digital Technology, English, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics and Science courses.
  • One class of Year 10 girls sit a complete Year 11 Mathematics programme.
  • The overall pass rate in NCEA Level 1 was 99% for the entire cohort.
  • The overall pass rate in NCEA Levels 2 and 3 was 100% and 97% respectively.

Learning is a complex business and should not be measured narrowly. Our girls are extended not only through classroom learning but also by participation in sport, community service and performing arts.
